BMS Engineers in the North East
Automated Energy Systems is an independent building management systems specialist based at Nexus Connect in Durham. We design, install, upgrade and maintain BMS and BEMS controls for commercial, healthcare, education and industrial buildings across Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, Teesside and the wider North East.
Being local means faster response times, engineers who know the region's estates, and a single point of contact from first survey to long-term support.

Our services
Building management system installation and upgrades: new BMS installations, controls upgrades and migrations from legacy systems to modern, open-protocol platforms.
BMS maintenance and system health checks: planned maintenance and in-depth health checks that find faults, recover lost efficiency and keep your plant running reliably.
BMS electrical installation: control panel builds, field wiring and containment installed to industry standards.
Energy monitoring: metering and monitoring that shows where your building uses energy and where you can cut waste.
Systems we work with
We work across the leading BMS platforms, so we can support your existing system rather than forcing a replacement: Tridium Niagara 4, Trend, Siemens, Distech, Cylon and Schneider StruxureWare. Tridium Niagara 4 is our primary platform, and we specialise in Niagara integration, graphics and upgrades.
Why North East organisations choose AES
Sectors we support
Commercial offices and HVAC: comfort, scheduling and energy efficiency for occupied buildings
Healthcare: reliable control of critical plant, heating and ventilation
Education: schools, academies and colleges, including boiler plant, AHUs and heat pumps
Industrial: HVAC, plant rooms and energy-intensive sites
Why choose a local BMS engineer?
Fast response: we're based in Durham, so most North East sites are within an hour's drive.
Direct access to the engineer: you deal with the person doing the work, not a call centre.
Platform-independent advice: we recommend what's right for your building, not what we're tied to selling.
Energy-focused: every job looks for ways to cut running costs and carbon.
Frequently asked questions
What is a building management system (BMS)?
A BMS is a control system that monitors and manages a building's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water and other plant from one place. A well-set-up BMS keeps occupants comfortable while cutting energy waste.
What's the difference between a BMS and a BEMS?
The terms are often used interchangeably. A BEMS (building energy management system) puts extra emphasis on monitoring and reducing energy use, but most modern systems do both.
Can you work on our existing BMS?
Yes. We support Trend, Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Distech, Cylon and Schneider systems, so in many cases we can maintain, repair or extend what you already have.
How often should a BMS be serviced?
Most sites benefit from at least an annual health check, with more frequent visits for critical environments such as healthcare. Regular servicing catches faults early and stops settings drifting away from their design intent.
Do you cover sites outside the North East?
Our core area is the North East of England, but we take on projects further afield. Get in touch to discuss your site.
